Lesson 4
Transition of the Crown

Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II, Canada’s former Head of State and the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years. The throne was passed immediately to the heir, King Charles the 3rd.
On March 13, 2023, King Charles the 3rd delivered his address to the nation and the Commonwealth from Buckingham Palace. With the new Monarch, Canada’s Royal Anthem, “God Save The Queen” has become “God Save The King”.
During the Queen’s last visit to Canada, she stated the following. “Canadians have, by their own endeavours, built a country and society which is widely admired across the world. I am fortunate to have been witness to many of the developments and accomplishments of modern Canada. As Queen of Canada for nearly six decades, my pride in this country remains undimmed.”
